2011 Prison Renovations

IMG 5894Nima Police Station: It's the busiest police station cell in Accra. It houses separate cells for male and female inmates with inmate population ranging from 60- over 100 at any given time. The facilities were very run down and old, making the living conditions of the cells unbearable.

After the renovation, the police station won the award for being the best and No.1 police station in Ghana and the 4th in West Africa 2011.

Work done

  • Building a large septic tank to replace the old overflowing tank.
  • Erecting the mount and providing an additional 1000 gallon water tank for the station.
  • In the male inmate cells, 4 broken down WC's were replaced.
  • Tiling the bathroom floor and providing 4 shower stalls for the male inmates.
  • Replacing bare cement floors with ceramic tiles –for entire male and female cell floors.
  • Painting the walls of the male and female cells, as well as the police station itself.
  • Providing 2 new toilets for the female cell.
  • Building, for the first time, two 2 stalls exclusively for the female inmates.
  • Replacing the entire Police Station counter, with ultramodern one fitted with a protective grille.
  • Providing furniture for Police Station.
  • Renovation of bathroom and offices of senior Officers at the station.
